While surfing the internet, have you ever stopped on a picture so amazing that it makes you happy, and changes your mood for the day?
Recently an old image of the 1960s or ’70s stumbles upon me and shows me how beautiful ethnic hairstyles can be such as afro. They hold the real sense of an African way of life.
That particular hairstyle stuck directly to my heart. Immediately I started researching whether anyone can grow an Afro or not, and if they do, then how to grow an Afro fast.
And trust me; found something so astonishing that blew my mind. Then I thought, let’s share the experience, so anyone can have their own afro in their hectic scheduled life.
Can Anyone Have Afro?
Okay, the fact is not everyone can grow afro.
Yes, it is disappointing.
The thing is those who possess thick curly or kinky hair, are the lucky ones. Afro is natural to grow on curly thick hair, yes, mostly talking about black men and women. I can picture the smiles shining on your chick right now.
Sorry dude, if you have straight hair with a soft texture, it is impossible for you to have an afro. Even soft curls of African- Americans are sometimes challenging to bend into an afro.
Only hair with tight curls can have an Afro.
How Long it Tackes to Grow an Afro?
To achieve anything beautiful, you must try it from your core. And if you do anything that becomes your passion, time brackets can’t dim it.
However, time is here to regulate the universe, and therefore we are also subject to that.
Now let’s come to the point, according to American dermatologists hair follicles tend to grow ½ inch each month. So if you want to grow 6 inches of afro, it will take a year. There is another catch; male hair grows faster than female hair. As a result, guys will get faster afro then a girl.
Other factors like- age, nutrition, and gene can also interrupt or excel the growth.
Ways to Grow Afro Faster
“Concision in style, precision in thought, the decision in life.”
Whatever you do, do it with precision. You may fail sometimes, but the moment you succeed, it will change your life. The details now I am going to give you is testimony towards my hard work. I have done tons of experiments on getting afro faster. So it’s your turn-
Drink Lots of Water
Since the day you learn the importance of your health, you get that the water is everything for healthy nourishment. Drinking water can nourish your hair too. Because water can increase the metabolism of your hair and prevent brittle behavior.
You don’t need to drink like 2 gallons a day and stay at the maximum bathroom time, but at least drink the minimum 8-10 glasses. Within a month, you will see the results. Your hair will flourish like morning glory.
Moisturize the Hair
Moisturizer would be your second endeavor to save the afro from falling and breaking up. It is always good for the hair. Mark it as one of the vital components to grow an afro.
So which moisturizer is best for your hair? I find a lot of options online, but in the end, come up to this- anything that is free from alcohol and petroleum is excellent.
However, if you think your hair is silky and no need for extra conditioning, feel free to leave them that way.
Guard the Hair at Night
Envelop your hair at night like a love letter. Save your hair from all the turning and twisting that you do while sleeping. Don’t make your night-dreams an obstacle for the afro.
I learned durag is the most convenient cover for afro, but while it is short. Silk or satin scarves are better for longer afros.
Hair concealment at night will not only help avoid tangling but also protect from dryness and strife.
More Silk on the Way
You will get a better result if you use silk or satin pillow cover. Silk works like magic. Natural silk cover reduces the hair fall ratio dramatically, and also prevents split ends. It will preserve the natural oil, and moisturizer of your hair.
Beat the Heat
While using a dryer or iron keeps the lowest temperature on the device. Scientists find out that high temperatures above 410°F/210°C start melting keratin, which is the main element that causes hair shine. Lower the use of heat equipment, and apply ‘10 seconds and break’ rule while using. Never use the dryer while your hair is wet; it will instantly steam moisturizer from the hair.
A range of heat reflector caps are available in the market, use one of those before going out. A swimming pool can be a hazardous place because it has lots of chlorine in the water. You better be prepared for that. When you are into the pool, wear a swim cap.
Split Ends is the Enemy
Split hair is the most irritating thing I encountered through afro development. Just shove the fingers top to bottom, you will find all split ends on the way. Before the split ends, you will find a point where the hair texture changed. You can trim it from that point or can trim only the split portion. The trimming will affect the length, but it’s for the better contour.
Trim the split ends every 4 weeks. As we know hair grows in thirty days. So it will not upset the afro a lot.
Coarse and curly hairs are disturbing in split-hair matter because it is challenging to locate the ends. However, split ends coils and makes knots at the end, which is an easy indication to trim them off.
Stay away from the colors while cultivating the afros. During the growth, it is crucial to shun all the chemicals from the curls. Hair colors contain a hazardous substance called peroxide; this chemical blanches the hair to coat the artificial color. In the process, your hair will lose all the progress and begin to brittle. I am sure you don’t want to destroy all the investment at this point.
You can dye as much as possible after having the afro, but make sure to feed the hair with proper nourishment.
Less Shampooing Helps
Growing afro is a commitment to the hair. To be fair with you, I mess it up a couple of times, and that’s why I don’t want you guys to do the same to yourself.
Don’t shampoo too often. It will shrink the amount of natural oil, and moisturizer from the hair. Your afro will look like the bush of the Sahara.
Shampoo twice a week, and then don’t forget to use a natural conditioner to moisturize the hair.
Choose Hair Products Wisely
Hair products that are based on water are great for afro.
Avoid products with sulfate, alcohol, mineral Oil, PEG-polyethylene glycol, DEA, MEA, and fragrance. Use natural organic products.
By doing research, I find out one in every ten products has hazardous hair chemicals. Natural products can also contain chemicals that permanently damage the hair and scalp. Some may suggest a natural product like bee-wax for afro. Please avoid that at all costs. It will make your hair dry and roughly more than ever.
Often time we only check the price tag but forget to see the ingredients. I highly inspire you to read the labels before buying a product.
Use the Right Tools
You need to change your tools set-up. A few weeks ago, you may be using your nice thin –teeth hairbrush for the clean and single thread hair. Guess what, your hair is on another level now. They are fluffy, thick, and cute. They need a bigger comb with wide teeth.
Wooden wide teeth- combs are best for an afro. You can find one at the local supermarket. Learn more
